Dr. Walter Nie is an NVH specialist in the eMotor Design and Applications, Electrified Systems Engineering Department of Ford Motor Company. He holds a master’s degree in applied Mechanics and a Ph.D. in Composite Materials and Structures. Dr. Nie has extensive experience and expertise in FEA coding, CAE method development, and related training and management at various levels.
Dr. Nie was a professor at Taiyuan University of Technology in China and later worked as an FEA software development leader at the Research Center of Computational Mechanics in Tokyo. Before joining Ford in 2013, he had worked at DS Simulia as a Senior Technical Specialist for 12 years, developing analysis methods and focusing on CAE-driven design. Dr. Nie specializes in vehicle durability, NVH, and crashworthiness analysis and evaluations. In recent years, he has focused on the NVH of e-drives for EVs and hybrids, involving sophisticated, multi-physics, interdisciplinary modeling and method development.
