Stuart Harmon

Principal Scientist, Electronic & Magnetic Materials Group

Stuart Harmon is a Principal Scientist in the Electronic & Magnetic Materials Group at NPL with over 30 years’ experience characterising magnetic materials and sensors. He is the Magnetics Theme Lead with oversight for all metrology, research, and commercial activities within the Group. Stuart is chair of the UK’s BSI committee ISE/108 for magnetic materials, a member of IEC TC68 for magnetic materials, and a member of SAE AE-9 for Aerospace Materials.

Stuart has worked on a diverse range of electrical and electromagnetic research and applied projects, with a focus on the characterisation of magnetic materials and advanced magnetic sensors. Current research activities include the development of systems to characterise magnetic and non-magnetic materials at operational conditions, the characterisation of magnetic sensors for medical and space applications, and to maintain the UK’s national measurement standards and traceability routes for magnetic properties.
